This module is an introductory but wide-ranging introduction to understanding and investigating common garden soil types and applying the principles of sustainable soil management & regeneration. It will give you a grounding in the core components of a healthy garden soil community and explain the ecological functions of these including their role in the wider environment. You will be encouraged to explore your own practices and impacts on soil, both direct and indirect and to take part in additional online group sessions. This course can be combined with the Introduction to Permaculture module towards a Permaculture Design Certificate, co-taught by the tutor using the curriculum approved by the Permaculture Association. The taught content is followed by 3 short assignments to deepen your practice and apply to a site of your choice; these will be due a month after the final online group session.
