Willow Weaving – Round Shopper

Specialist
Summary information

On this two day course you will make a round willow shopping basket with a traditional round base, waled and randed sides, rod border and a bow handle.

This course is ideal for beginners or those wanting to develop their weaving techniques. Over the two days there will be time to go over the processes of making a round basket in detail and, depending on speed, there may be the opportunity to make another smaller basket to reinforce your new skills.

You will be learning traditional ‘stake and strand’ basket making, using prepared basketry willow plus some grown at Denmark Farm Conservation Centre on the wetland system to add colour and texture. You can choose from a variety of naturally coloured willow to make your own unique and beautiful basket.

All tools and materials provided. If you have your own sharp secateurs and a knife, please bring them along. Please wear warm old clothing.
