Nim - Educator Profile

I began exploring the world of permaculture back in 2007 whilst studying Ecology, and it has been an empowering journey of self discovery and adventure ever since. I completed my pdc, diploma and teacher training course over the following few years, and I now run my own permaculture design based company, specialising in natural playspace and garden design and training for children and teachers. I combine this with a love and training in forest schooling for children and am working towards a collaboration of creating a pdc curriculum for children with a network of European permaculture educators. Alongside working with permaculture design and education for children I am also now focusing my time and energy on adult courses, workshops and diploma tutoring, around the UK.
My little family and I have been exploring the world on a quest to find a new home, which has taken us on world schooling adventures through Thailand, Nepal, Spain, the UK, Australia and New Zealand over the past few years, searching out interesting projects and opportunities for collaboration and growth everywhere we go. (You can read more about our families adventure on my blog and website,
Hopes for the future? To learn, grow and share more every day, to feel fulfilled and content with the way I live my life, and to know I am doing all I can to ensure my child (and I) grow with respect, honour and understanding for this earth we live upon. Totally cliche, but mainly to be the change I want to see in this world.. an everlasting journey of discovery!

Skills, technical expertise and areas of interest:

Although I also enjoy working with adults, my main specialisation is in permaculture design for children. I work in schools creating permaculture designs for integrated natural playspaces, wildlife areas, growing areas and everything else! I also work with children and permaculture in after school groups, home school classes and one off immersive weekend/week long childrens events. I also run training for teachers on the benefit of school gardens, and how best to creatively integrate permaculture design into the school environment and curriculum.

Areas of Permaculture Design Experience:

I have experience of permaculture in a range of climates- tropical, mediterranean and temperate. I really enjoy sharing my understanding of permaculture design in ways that can be easily understood, through formal and informal workshops and short courses.
