Gardd Llechwedd Organig Garth / Garth Hillside Organic Garden
Community food project
Using Permaculture Principles this community food project, situated 1000ft above the village of Glyn Ceiriog, near Llangollen, is a local sustainable fruit, vegetable and conservation initiative, which came together to grow food amid concerns over sustainability and climate change. Our aim is to create a permaculture and organic educational resource to show people how easily they can grow food at home, to create a place to meet, to protect and enhance bio-diversity and to improve the well being of all. Following the contours of the countryside we have created four terraces from wood coppiced on site and local recycled materials forming a natural amphitheatre around our social area - creating a practical example of sustainability.
Everyone is welcome to join us up at the Garden, we run short courses and we have regular volunteer days on Thursdays where we come together to grow, maintain the garden, relax, eat together and enjoy the views of the Glyn Ceriog Valley. We are focused on soil habitat restoration and recreations, we have have beehives, wildflowers, rare species including slow worms and grass snakes. We have a composting toilet, coppiced woodland, forest garden and rainwater harvesting.
